The Performance Improvement Awards Program is a recognition program focusing on the five Core Principles in ChemStewards. When a facility joins SOCMA, it commits to the following ChemStewards Core Principles:
- Stakeholder Communications
- Product Stewardship
- Employee Training and Engagement
- Resource and Waste Minimization
- EHS&S in Planning and Operations
Award applications are based on these Five Core Principles and specifically take into account best practices and principles that demonstrate continuous improvement beyond the basic requirements of ChemStewards and government-mandated programs. There are three types of awards: Gold, Silver and Bronze.
To win a Gold Award, your company must be in the ChemStewards Excellence Tier III Level. A Gold winner is typically given to only one member and means the facility is going above and beyond in all Five Core Principles. It is the shining star of the year’s EHS&S Awards Program.
A Silver Award is given in each of the Five Core Principles to facilities that successfully demonstrate their commitment to the ChemStewards Core Principles and demonstrate exceptional performance in one or more of the individual Core Principles (Silver Award in Stakeholder Communications, etc.). Silver Award winners demonstrate continuous improvement beyond the basic requirements of ChemStewards and government-mandated programs. To win a Silver Award your facility can be a Tier III, II or I. A facility cannot win more than two Silver Awards.
If a facility wins a Bronze Award, it means it is successfully demonstrating its commitment to the ChemStewards Core Principles. Bronze Awards winners demonstrate continuous improvement beyond the basic requirements of ChemStewards and government-mandated programs. The Bronze Award level performance is the foundation for qualification to be considered for a Silver or Gold Award.
A group of members who did not submit an application are chosen to judge the entries. It is a double-blind process, meaning the judges do not see a company’s name on an application, and applicants do not know who is serving as judges.
Winners of the Performance Improvement Awards are recognized at SOCMA’s 96th Annual Dinner in New York City. Winners receive support from SOCMA’s Marketing and Communications Team in issuing a press release in their communities and local media outlets and featured in all SOCMA communication outlets.
