Looks forward to working with Secretary on trade issues important to specialty chemical industry

ARLINGTON, VA – The Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates (SOCMA) today congratulates Wilbur Ross, who was confirmed by the Senate as Secretary of Commerce on Monday, February 27.

SOCMA Managing Director of Government Relations Robert F. Helminiak released the following statement about the appointment:

"We congratulate Secretary Ross on his confirmation and look forward to working with him on issues of great importance to our SOCMA members and the chemical industry at large. The Secretary is in a unique situation and has the responsibility to help grow the U.S. economy. Tax and trade are prime targets. We urge the Secretary to keep in mind the impact to small and medium-size businesses when developing new policies and positions such as the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement and other trade agreements. We believe some of these agreements can be more beneficial and, ideally, we will see more agreements created."

Since 1921 SOCMA has represented a diverse membership of small, medium and large chemical companies located around the world bringing world-class support uniquely tailored to enhance the operational excellence of our member companies. SOCMA is the only U.S.-based trade association dedicated solely to the specialty chemical industry, making us the leading authority on this sector. For more information, visit
