SOCMA Weighs in on Administrations NAFTA Negotiations

On July 17, the Administration announced its negotiating objectives for the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).  The announcement is the start of a critical negotiation process, and we have the opportunity to strengthen the rules and secure the strongest possible tools to enforce those rules. The negotiating objectives outlined are a brief summary of the Administration’s priorities, and we will not know the specific objectives until we see the text from negotiations. Therefore, SOCMA will continue to reinforce and restate our desired outcomes of the NAFTA negotiations.
As we work to modernize NAFTA, we can build a growing U.S. manufacturing economy that can create even more well-paying jobs and opportunities for workers.
SOCMA is working closely with the administration and members of Congress to ensure the best possible outcome for specialty chemical manufacturers in the United States and their workers. It will also be important for SOCMA member companies to share with their employees and community the importance of NAFTA and how it has specifically benefited them and their workers over the last 20 years.
