House Committee to Hold Hearing on Progress of CFATS

The House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy will hold a hearing on the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) progress in improving implementation of the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) at 10:00 AM (ET) Tuesday, September 11.

Speaking on behalf of DHS will be Rand Beers, Under Secretary for the National Protection and Programs Directorate. Cathleen Berrick, Managing Director of Homeland Security and Justice issues for the Government Accountability Office (GAO), has been invited to testify on the GAO’s recent report on CFATS implementation and subsequent findings in their ongoing investigation. A representative from the DHS Inspector General’s office, which has been looking into the mismanagement of the chemical security program, is also expected to testify.
