“The recent questions surrounding the quality and safety of products manufactured in China are alarming and overdue. SOCMA has had concerns over the quality of active pharmaceutical ingredients from emerging markets for some time; encouraging the federal government to strengthen the inspection regime for ingredients manufactured overseas.
“Now that the issues of quality and safety have been raised for other major industries: food toys, paints, bath products; companies must take steps to ensure control over their own manufacturing processes.
“As the processes used in manufacturing are made safer and cleaner, the products follow.”
