Association & Consortium Management Overview
Since the early 1970s, SOCMA has been the focal point of action for more than 50 affiliated trade associations, professional societies and educational foundations, including a variety of chemical, special issue and testing consortia (i.e. Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Section 4, High Production Volume Consortia (HPV), etc.). Association Management Services (AMS), a division of SOCMA, manages various separately funded, affiliated associations and consortia that address specific chemical or process advocacy, regulatory, testing, stewardship, or technical issues of common concern or interest to a particular sector of the chemical industry. (i.e. chemical-specific or class of related chemicals or applications). The experience, history and flexibility of AMS is the perfect fit for the ever-changing demands of the chemical industry.

As affiliates, these groups benefit from the collective SOCMA staff resources, management and expertise. Each group is managed independently with its own membership, budget and governance.
Wawer served in both staff and Executive Director roles for Chambers of Commerce in Waterbury, CT, Chicopee, MA, and Northern Rhode Island. He also served in regional trade associations, including the Boston Real Estate Board; Lexington, KY Board of Realtors; and the Massachusetts Chemistry Technology Alliance. His national trade association experience includes the American Chemistry Council, Color Pigments Manufacturers Association and SOCMA.
He was also a government relations professional for Ciba-Geigy Corporation, an international chemical, agricultural and pharmaceutical corporation.
