    More than a dozen SOCMA members and staff met with key officials at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) last week for a batch processing and process safety educational exchange. Following recent statements in some of the agency’s published documents, SOCMA was particularly concerned EPA may not fully understand the nature of batch processing, or how batch processors address process safety.

    Washington, D.C. – The Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA) on Friday celebrated President Obama’s signing into law the American Manufacturing Competitiveness Act of 2016 (H.R. 4923), bipartisan legislation that would create a Miscellaneous Tariff Bill (MTB) process to eliminate tariffs on inputs and other products that aren’t produced or available in the United States.

  6. A Vaccine to Counter the Epidemic of Prop 65 Lawsuits: Insurance

    Today, more than 900 chemicals are listed as carcinogens or reproductive toxins under California’s notorious Proposition 65 (Prop65) program. Included on that list are certain chemicals critical to the production of flexible PVC, including the phthalate DEHP and, most recently, DINP. These phthalates are essential plasticizers used in hundreds of consumer, medical and industrial products, and both DEHP and DINP have decades of scientific data indicating their safety. However, once a chemical is included on the list, as in the recent case of DINP, plasticized vinyl products are subject to immediate scrutiny by a sector of the legal profession known as plaintiff’s attorneys, or “bounty hunters.”

  11. Rodolfo Savitzky appointed as new CFO for Lonza Group to succeed Toralf Haag who was appointed as CFO of the Voith Group in Germany

    Basel, Switzerland – Lonza today announced that its Board of Directors appointed Rodolfo Savitzky as new Chief Financial Officer for Lonza. In this function he will be succeeding Toralf Haag, who after 11 years of service for Lonza accepted an offer from the Voith Group in Germany to become their new CFO and member of the Corporate Board of Management. The change will be effective as of 1 October 2016, when Rodolfo Savitzky will also succeed Toralf Haag as a member of the Lonza Executive Committee.

    Investment will support the Mexican company’s continued growth in the global agrochemical industry

    MEXICO CITY – Advent International (“Advent”), one of the largest and most experienced global private equity investors, today announced that it has agreed to acquired VIAKEM S.A. de C.V. (“VIAKEM”), a leading Mexico-based manufacturer of fine chemicals for the global agrochemical industry. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2016 and terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
