The first annual SOCMA CONNECT Washington Fly-In was a success!  Close to 20 participants visited 26 Congressional offices, including key targets such as Rep. Gene Green (D-TX) on the House Energy and Commerce Committee's Subcommittee of  Environment and Hazardous Materials, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) of the Homeland Security Committee's Subcomittee on Transportation Security and Infrastructure Protection.  Key visits on the Senate side included Sen. Lieberman who chairs the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs while also sitting on the Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee and the Small Business and Entrepreneurship (SB) Committee  and Sen. Isakson who is the ranking member on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee's Employment and Workplace Safety Subcommittee while also sitting on the EPW and SB Committees.

Participants in the Fly-In enjoyed a Capitol Hill reception and dinner on Tuesday evening, June 11, as well as a "Fly-In 101" session where SOCMA's legislative agenda was explained in detail and all attendees were prepared for the next day's visits.  SOCMA also had space at the esteemed Capitol Hill Club for attendees to relax, get a bite to eat, and debrief between meetings on Wednesday.

What Members Are Saying…

“Right off the bat, SOCMA’s ChemStewards provides you with a template that shows you good practices that should be implemented across-the-board.  And the dialogue with other members and SOCMA staff is very valuable.  You would have to pay a lot of money to bring in that kind of expertise, but with SOCMA, it’s all a benefit of membership.”
