EHS&S staff from across the international chemical community gathered at GlobalChem 2009 in Baltimore, MD from April 6-8 to discuss some of the most pressing issues of the day. Industry, nonprofit and government chemical policy experts shared their insights on a variety of topics, including:
- The future of chemicals management and TSCA reform
- Coping with the latest Global Harmonization System (GHS) and OSHA changes
- What to expect from the next phase of International Conference on Chemical Management (ICCM) meetings
- Trends in state regulations and nongovernmental activity.
Attendees had the opportunity to participate in an optional TSCA and international fundamentals workshop on April 6, in addition to the two full days of sessions on chemical regulations. The first day of sessions highlighted US and international efforts to modernize chemical risk management policies, with particular attention to TSCA in the United States, the upcoming ICCM-2, and what to expect in this regulatory arena internationally through 2012 and beyond.
The second day of the conference featured detailed reviews of the ChAMP program and REACh, as well as optional sessions on developments in state chemical policy and major EPA developments in nanomaterials management and risk screening models.
Breakout sessions highlighted such issues as the business impact of retail initiatives in green chemistry, recent developments in the cosmetic and personal care products industry, and an introduction to the new chemicals policy decision makers in Washington, DC.
In addition to a number of educational sessions, attendees also enjoyed networking breakfasts and networking lunches in the expo hall, complimentary wireless access throughout the convention area sponsored by Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. and an evening reception on the first day of sessions at the National Aquarium, also sponsored by Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. Other sponsors of GlobalChem 2009 were ICIS and Keller and Heckman LLP.
ACC and SOCMA co-hosted this event.
