SOCMA's 10th Chemical Industry Golf Tournament
September 24, 2013
Chester Valley Golf Club
SOCMA’s 10th Annual Chemical Industry Golf Tournament welcomed attendees back to Malvern, PA, for a beautiful day of golf, networking and supporting a great cause – the American Chemical Society (ACS) Scholars Program. Both SOCMA members and non-members were in attendance at Chester Valley Golf Club, which featured the opportunity to win an Audi A5 Convertible with a hole-in-one on #7. Although no one was able to win the car, attendees still enjoyed a perfect fall day on the golf course.
Following the scramble tournament, players gathered for a reception and dinner, sponsored by AIG, which included an awards ceremony recognizing both outstanding golfers and raffle winners. Prizes were awarded to donors and first-, second- and third-place teams, as well as longest drive and closest-to-the-pin contest winners. With good registration numbers and generous donations from dozens of attendees, the event was able to provide the ACS Scholars Program with a substantial donation.
The 2013 Golf Tournament First-Place Winners were:
Mark Axelman – ASTM International
Jeff Grove – ASTM International
David Bradley – ASTM International
Tim Brooke – ASTM International
SOCMA would like to thank the 2013 Golf Committee, led by Ken Carroll. Ken was once again a huge help to SOCMA staff in promoting the tournament through C&EN. The rest of this year’s committee was made up of Chuck Gavin of MFG Chemical, Eric Neuffer, Tom Scanlan of C&EN and Gene Williams of Optima Chemical.
Following tradition, SOCMA’s donation check to the Scholars Program will be presented to ACS at SOCMA’s 92nd Annual Dinner on December 9 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square in New York City. This year is the 18th anniversary of the ACS undergraduate scholarship program for aspiring chemical science students.
Thank you sponsors!
