Chester Valley Golf Club
SOCMA’s Chemical Industry Golf Tournament returned for its 11th installment on Monday, September 23, 2014, at Chester Valley Golf Club outside Philadelphia. 89 attendees enjoyed a perfect fall day on the course, cocktail reception and awards dinner. The tournament was once again held to benefit the American Chemical Society (ACS) Scholars Program, helping underprivileged students to succeed in chemistry-related fields.
Following the scramble-format golf tournament, players gathered for a reception and dinner, sponsored by AIG, which included an awards ceremony recognizing first-, second- and third-place teams, as well as longest drive, closest-to-the-pin, and performance improvement contest winners. The evening also featured a raffle, sponsored by Informex, with great prizes like an iPad Mini, Pappy Van Winkle bourbon, and a 50/50 cash prize. Informex generously agreed to match the funds generated by the raffle to donate to the ACS Scholars Program.
Informex’s contribution, combined with outstanding registration numbers and generous donations from dozens of attendees, will provide the ACS Scholars Program with a substantial donation. Following tradition, SOCMA’s donation check to the Scholars Program will be presented to ACS at SOCMA’s 93rd Annual Dinner on December 8 at the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square.
The 2014 Golf Tournament First-Place Winners were:
- Charlie Hinnant – Optima Chemical Group
- Jim Ingersoll – DuPont
- Min Chao – DuPont
- Martin Eichelberger – PNC Bank
SOCMA would like to thank the 2014 Golf Committee, led by Ken Carroll. Ken was once again a huge help to SOCMA staff in promoting the tournament through C&EN. The rest of this year’s committee was made up of Chuck Gavin of MFG Chemical, Tom Scanlan of C&EN and Gene Williams of Optima Chemical.
Thank you sponsors!
