SOCMA members representing the pharma space met October 27 in Boston to discuss issues impacting contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs) and their supply chain partners, as well as learn from notable industry consultants as part of SOCMA’s first-ever Pharma Forum.
Speakers for the invitation-only event, included:
- Jim Miller, President of PharmSource Information Services, Inc., who provided attendees with an overview of the landscape at the outset of the CDMO relationship, especially considering the ongoing volatility and flux (acquisitions, divestments, reorganizations, change in service offerings) of the sector serving the pharmaceutical industry.
- Dr. Stuart Levy, President of SGL Chemistry Consulting, LLC, shared insight about doing business with small-to-medium-sized companies, with an entrepreneurial perspective.
- Jim Bruno, Principal of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Solutions, who focused his remarks on contract R&D and manufacturing, with an emphasis on late-stage, end-of-the-development spectrum.
- Angelos Dovletoglou, Ph.D., Executive Director of Preclinical Development Sciences and Acting Head of Regulatory Affairs, Epizyme, shared insight on the timing of API development activities within the drug development cycle, as well as budgeting and prioritization of these activities.
During the afternoon, attendees participated in a facilitated discussion on various topics focused on business operational excellence led by Dr. Levy.
