SOCMA held its 95th Annual Dinner at the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan in New York, with more 360 SOCMA members and guests attending the event. The 2016 Annual Dinner featured a number of networking opportunities with key leaders in the specialty chemical industry, Educational Showcases with both economic and advocacy tracks, and an awards ceremony during dinner that recognized the 2016 Performance Improvement and President’s Leadership Award winners.
Highlighting the afternoon were simultaneous Educational Showcases, one featuring an update on the “Trump Economy” with Peter Tanous of Lynx Investment Advisory and “Crisis Communication in a Hyper-Connected World” with Christopher Lukach with the Anne Klein Communications Group, and another on Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Reform for the C-Suite with attorney Jamie Conrad of Conrad Law & Policy Counsel and Beth Bosley, President of Boron Specialties.
The speed networking reception, sponsored by the UK Department for International Trade, was once again a huge hit. The room was overflowing with members and guests looking to make business connections with others in the industry.
Members then enjoyed a reception, sponsored by Dixie Chemical Co., Inc., before heading into dinner.
During the Annual Dinner, sponsored by Lynx Investment Advisory, SOCMA President and CEO Jennifer Abril recognized SOCMA’s Performance Improvement Award recipients. Baker Hughes Rayne Blend Facility and Taft Manufacturing Plant received the association’s Gold Award, Fairmount Santrol’s Alpha Resins once again received the Sustainability Award, and ChemDesign was honored with the Educational Outreach Award. Congratulations to all of the 2015 Performance Improvement Award winners. A complete list of winners can be found here.
Karli Greene of CJB Industries was honored with the SOCMA President’s Leadership Award for Excellence in Service because of her work and expertise in adding a new chapter to the SOCMA Chemical Operator Training program. Brenda Seggerman of Hydrite was the recipient of the President’s Leadership Award for Excellence in Advocacy for her work on the Small Business Administration Panels for EPA’s Risk Management Program (RMP) and OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM) program.
The dinner ended with a performance from stand-up comedian Mack Dryden, who has appeared on the Late Show with both Johnny Carson and Jay Leno, as well as played in several movies and TV shows, including JAG and The Guardian.
Following dinner, members and guests enjoyed a cordials reception.
