Work place fatalities continue to occur because of unsafe work practices. Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) is a not-for-profit, corporate membership organization within AIChE that identifies and addresses process safety needs within the chemical, pharmaceutical, and petroleum industries. CCPS Project 276, Guidelines for Safe Work Practices, is intended to share safe work practice incidents and by compiling effective best practice elements for many commonly used Safe Work Practices (SWP) in order to make SWPs more human failure resistant. This project will provide a collection of web-based resources available to all levels of the organization; including management, supervision, and operating and maintenance technicians.
The website will have seven main components:
- Fundamental Intent
- Call to Action (Need for SWP’s)
- Potential Hazards
- Effective Practices
- Common Program Practices
- Reference Materials
The website and its content are designed to reach, and provide value to, a very broad audience. In addition to appealing to larger, more established member companies, the website and its contents has been tailored to also reach non-member outlier organizations, both large and small, domestic and international.
