Washington - Chemical industry executives will be arriving in Washington Wednesday for meetings on Capitol Hill as part of the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association's (SOCMA) Washington Fly-In.

Industry leaders will discuss several legislative priorities SOCMA identified as key issues to chemical manufacturers.  Among them include chemical site security, climate change, chemical control regulation, and the safe importation of active pharmaceutical ingredients.  All of these issues are currently being discussed before Congress and will certainly be considered in the next Congress as well.

Bill Allmond, SOCMA's Director of Government Relations, said, "In the closing months of this Congressional session, the main objective of our Hill meetings is to reinforce the industry's position on major priorities, setting the stage for when many of these issues are taken up again in the next Congress.  This is key; when Congress reconvenes early next year, issues important to specialty batch manufacturing will be among the first issues taken up.  Through this Fly-In, SOCMA and our members will be positioning ourselves to hit the ground running in the first months of 2009," he said.

What Members Are Saying…

“SOCMA has had an extraordinary impact on the success of our business. There is no doubt that without SOCMA we definitely would not be as successful as we are today. The organization is an invaluable resource. We don’t part with dues dollars lightly, but believe every dollar spent with SOCMA has provided immeasurable returns.”
