The Environmental Protection Agency announced on June 11 that it is extending the Chemical Data Rule (CDR) reporting period by six-weeks to August 13, 2012, from the original due date of June 30, 2012.

“The need for the agency to extend the deadline arose, in part, as a result of issues experienced by the regulated community with several aspects of electronic reporting that were brought to the agency's attention only recently,” EPA said.

SOCMA was among the first to request an extension and asked that the agency give immediate consideration to our request. On May 29, the association submitted an extension request, citing technical difficulties with the CDX reporting tool. SOCMA also highlighted the fact that a number of members’ questions on the reporting requirements were still unanswered.

“SOCMA is pleased that EPA was willing to provide industry with more time to adhere to the reporting requirements, given unexpected inadequacies experienced by EPA to ensure a workable reporting process,” said Bill Allmond, SOCMA’s VP of Government and Public Relations. “Although SOCMA requested a 90-day extension, we are hopeful this 6 week extension will be sufficient for both industry and the agency to ensure problems are worked out.”
