SOCMA Welcomes President’s Call to Permanently Extend R&D Tax Credit

Washington, DC – The Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA) today welcomed President Barack Obama’s proposal to Congress to increase and permanently extend the research and development (R&D) tax credits for US businesses. The extension, estimated at $100 billion over 10 years, will assist with job growth within the chemical manufacturing sector.

SOCMA Commends Signing of Duty Suspension Bill

Washington, DC – The Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA) commended today’s signing by President Obama of H.R. 4380, the “United States Manufacturing Enhancement Act of 2010,” also known commonly as the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill (MTB). The bill, which is a compilation of duty suspensions, allows manufacturers to cut production costs by eliminating the duty for certain raw materials imported to the U.S.

Key Senate Panel Approves 3-Year Extension of Chemical Security Rules

Washington, DC – Legislation that would make existing chemical security standards permanent took a major step forward today, winning bipartisan support in the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee. Following a markup, lawmakers voted unanimously to approve an amendment from Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) to the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Act of 2009 (H.R. 2868).

New TSCA Reform Bill Threatens Domestic Chemical Manufacturing and Innovation

Washington, DC – Legislation that would significantly hamper innovation and impose stringent regulatory burdens on batch, specialty and custom chemical manufacturers – particularly small and mid-sized companies – was introduced last night in the House of Representatives by Congressmen Bobby L. Rush (D-IL) and Henry Waxman (D-CA), who both serve on the influential House Energy Commerce Committee.
