SOCMA’s Government Relations services ensure that specialty chemical manufacturers have a seat at the table with policymakers. Engaging all parts of the federal government – from agency staff to lawmakers – SOCMA influences and produces positive outcomes for its members on the most crucial issues facing the industry.

How SOCMA Members Get Involved

SOCMA members can get involved in the association’s advocacy efforts through SOCMA’s committees, which consist of member representatives, staff managers and legal counsel. The committees are tasked with identifying key issues impacting specialty chemical manufacturers, formulating association policy on these issues, and promoting member interests through direct lobbying, formal comments, testimony and coalition building. Government Relations Committee:

The Government Relations Committee is focused on strengthening SOCMA’s overall advocacy efforts and effectiveness. The GR Committee strengthens SOCMA’s advocacy value proposition as the voice of the specialty chemical industry. The prime function of the GR Committee is to evaluate policy priorities and make recommendations to the Board of Governors on policy positions.

Environment, Health & Safety Committee:

The Environment, Health & Safety Committee focuses on a wide range of issues, including (but not limited to) chemical risk management issues, hazardous waste, site security, process safety, employee health and safety, water and air regulations, and regulatory reform.

International Trade Committee:

The International Trade Committee currently focuses on a wide range of issues, including (but not limited to) tariff-relief legislation, NAFTA and KORUS modernization, and reduction of foreign trade barriers in markets such as India, China, Korea, Canada and the European Union.
